Fuel Over Flavor
Can’t say it all looks as appetizing as it could, but it’s getting easier to pound down. We’ve been a bit fanciful, trying to make it interesting in this transition away from the foods we love, but we’ll be shooting for more efficiency and sustainability with our future recipes. The point of this project isn’t to find ways to make whole foods taste like junk foods. They don’t and won’t. We have lost a number of people to bad habits, and throughout the course of this walk, have found ourselves developing our own. We want to show you that it’s possible. Are you suffering from disease? A healthy diet only helps and can even reverse some of those which are induced by our lifestyle. We don’t have to seek pleasure in all of our decisions. This kind of “reaching” eventually harms us. We also don’t all have to eat only whole foods, but many of us struggle to save ourselves even when we know we’re dying from our choices. To eat this way for a month serves as a reference point for anyone trying to incorporate healthier habits. You can remember: it could always be worse, and “if those guys can do that, I can certainly do this.” We all need good influences in our lives more than we need enablers.
Today’s menu! Smoothie like yesterday for breakfast. Chili with all sorts of veggies, broccoli, black beans, kale, sweet potato, carrots, onion, lentils, tomato paste, cabbage, and tomatoes! Grape snack. And for dinner, a pizza whose crust was made from, get this, chickpea flour, potato, flax, and oats. The crust was surprisingly adequate for thin crust. Topped with a pseudo ranch cashew and tahini sauce, spinach, and onion, plus tofu and black beans which were soaked in homemade hot sauce. None of it’s been that bad. Is it Chicago deep dish? Absolutely not. But it might save your life. The Chicago deep dish on the other hand is to die for… and because of.
