There Are No Heroes

   We’re ready to meet you where you’re at. We’re ready to accept you despite our differences. We’re ready to see past outward superficialities, to the heart of what motivates you. We are ready for it to be somewhat selfish. 

   We expect to see you do something we imagine to be immoral, and we are ready to accept you in spite of it. We don’t care if you’re holding a cigarette, a needle, or a handful of diamonds.

   We have had friends that have stolen from or hurt people (including us). Friends operating above and below the law. Friends that preach one thing and do another. Unreliable friends. Unaccountable friends. Psychopathic, schizophrenic, borderline, obsessive compulsive, narcissistic friends. 

   These are the people that make up our world. You will not find one spotless among us. Think we’re wrong? It’s actually estimated that the average American commits around 3 felonies a day! 

   This is only one measurement by which many judge others, but the same judgments can be measured against each other using different faiths, ideologies, or individual moral compasses.

   If you want to conquer evil, you must first realize that hatred begets hatred; only love and understanding can break the cycle.

   We have seen into the innermost lives of hundreds of people from nearly every walk of life. We are all failing in some ways and succeeding in others. We are all wrestling against our own selfishness. 

   There are no super heroes, holy ones, or ever-enlightened beings. 

   There is trying, and there is failing.

   There is opening, and there is closing.

   There is judgment, and there is acceptance.
