Never Appeal to Futility

Some will tell you it’s all mind over matter! But extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Conscious states have identifiable neural correlates, and mental phenomena are therefore constrained by underlying brain physiology. These conditions exist on a spectrum; from transient biochemical dysregulation (like elevated cortisol) to structural damage (like the loss of frontal lobe function or hemispherectomy patients), some conditions are certain to impose irreversible limits on one’s ability to change.

This is the important part! Predispositions and growth constraints are real; so, what? Exercise is good, regardless of whether we’re in a wheelchair, even if it isn’t going to grow our leg back.

We don’t need to believe we “can get big like Schwarzenegger” to go to the gym. We need to believe exercise is important to staying healthy, and there are a variety of viable ways to accomplish our goals if we understand the basics of fitness (some more suited to certain goals than others).

Never appeal to futility! NEVER stop trying.
