600 Strangers Homes

Over 600 strangers have hosted us. Think about that! Six. Hundred. People. Invited strangers into their homes, fed them, and trusted them overnight with their belongings, their loved ones, and even their kids. A society of purely selfish people wouldn’t do that. People of purely selfish intent, with no certain gain, don’t do that. Yet collectively, we’ve been helped, housed, and fed thousands of times now. Not by people who are just like us. We are SO “out there” compared to the average American. By people who disagree with us politically, religiously, and philosophically. By people who live nothing like us. By biased, judgmental, and selfish people just like the rest of us. By selfless, understanding, and virtuous people just like the rest of us. People might not be able to articulate non-contradictory moral imperatives, but it doesn’t simply mean they’re immoral. Someone might not know what the word virtue even means, yet they could be the most virtuous person you’ve ever met. Some people that hosted us are now in prison. Some are now running for congress. Some have cheated on their partners, and some have lost everything to bad decisions. Some have formed campaigns which they believe will improve the world. They were all kind to us. They were all good in some ways and confused or selfish in others. But they were all worth spending time with. They were all a privilege to have in our lives for the time we shared. People are amazing: The good. The bad. And the humanity.
