The Necessity of Aloneness

Slow strolling San Luis Obispo solo! Not because I “had to get away,” but because our thoughts are hugely influenced by our environment; we cannot think those thoughts which only manifest within total freedom of attention until we are alone. Relationships are fulfilling, but if we want to make the most of them, we have to be in such a state so as to give more than we take. That’s impossible when we NEED them. When we NEED people to love us, understand us, elevate or inspire us, ground us, correct us, or encourage us, we do not leave the necessary space within awareness to love, understand, inspire etc those we desire such things from. You best serve those who need you when you yourself are not in need. That starts by normalizing aloneness, and using the time to develop a framework and methodology for your moral imperatives which will extend beyond the will and whimsy of those you could get caught up trying to please. You’ve only got so much cognitive bandwidth; for the good stuff to get through, you have to free up space.
