Don’t Be a Human!

Don’t be human! We’ve got rules around here. I’m going to ask you how you’re doing, expecting you to mask your true feelings. Acceptable responses include: good, great, fine, alright, pretty good, and awesome. Shut up about the rest; no one wants to hear it. Even though I’m always griping and complaining about the superficiality in the word, I’ll despise any reveal of your innermost self. Why can’t you figure out how to hold it together like the rest of us? I’m sick of all the dishonest layers it takes years to break through for a true friendship, but I’m not ready to accept you for who you really are or how you’re really feeling. In fact, you’re part of the problem, if you can’t keep it to yourself. Plus you’re weak. I’m strong. Look at my indifference. I’m so over everything and above it all. Behold my desensitization. Watch me complain about the conventions I conform to, yet expect you to abide by. Witness the strength I’ve mustered by remaining invulnerable. See how well I know myself? I know all the things I’m closed off to. I find power in pride, but the prideful are all narcissistic idiots. In fact, the only smart people I know agree with me on everything. Until they don’t; then I’m done with them. I sure wish the world was a better place. If only we could rid it of all the people that aren’t just like me.
