The Interdependence of Opposites

Every once in a while we bump into someone who’s had the same ineffable experiences which drive our walk. Half of them hunt us down after seeing it seeded within an article, even when it’s never been explicitly stated. Those who have experienced something similar seem to have a kind of radar for it. 

   The other half ask me why I feel the need to proselytize. “That’s what the world is doing. It misses the point. Because of the interdependence of opposites, everything is perfect right where it’s at. It couldn’t be any other way. If you know it’s perspective that gets in the way of seeing that, you fall prey to the same dissonance with reality, trying to get someone else to see it. The universe is certain to look after itself better than you can.”

   With the best intentions, one such person just told me I’ve effectively made myself a snake oil salesman, because I’ve manufactured a problem that isn’t actually there and simultaneously offered everyone the solution. 

   The hardest hitting criticisms come from people that actually know what they're talking about. They’re right. 

   But so am I. 

   And so was Buddha.

   And so was Jesus.

   And so was Laozi.

   And so was the enlightened sage that never said anything to anyone, disappearing into the forest never to be seen or heard from again.

   And so was Meister Eckhart, Eckhart Tolle, Alan Watts, Ram Dass, Carl Jung, Schopenhauer, and the Vedas. 

   And we are all equally wrong. 

   This thing that we are all pointing to is devoid of form. It exists neither in concept nor thought. It is only experienced. To even talk about it, you have failed in your description. 

   Some people experience this, and call it the Holy Spirit. Some experience it, and call it the Tao. Some call it Brahman. Some call it Sunyata or Dharmakaya. Some call it the Logos. Some call it the ground of being. 

   But it doesn’t matter who you are, or where you’re at, or what you believe, we’re all a part of it, and no matter how hard we squirm, we’re doing its will. IT might well be all that you are, but you are not all that IT is.

   While some people see this as evidence that we don’t need to “wake people up,” I see it as evidence that “waking people up” is a part of the ever-unfolding process.

   It’s not for everyone. Some people who have seen beyond the veil are better suited to making pizza, provided that’s what they feel driven toward and find purpose in. 

   I have been granted a special role through my life experiences and compulsion to learn about these things; I no longer feel out of sync sharing this information with people. 

   We don’t need everyone to manufacture paper, but someone needs to. We don’t need everyone talking about perception, ego, death, contentment, spirituality, and all the other overwhelmingly heavy existential topics. 

   But WE need to.
