The End of Want
This is probably a bit more philosophy than anyone is looking for, but this is really just something I needed to tell myself. Since I am journaling it to myself, I just as well include you all for whatever benefit it may be to you!
The attainment of what you desire does not result in the end of desire. It won’t result in the end of that kind of desire. It might not even result in the end of that particular desire.
Only your dissolution of attachment to desire results in the cessation of that desire.
How much has desire (the want for anything to be someway other than the way it already is) eaten up your ability to be truly present? Present in your relationships? Present in your work? Present in each available moment?
And what level of connection does your attention have to any desire at any given moment?
If you desire it badly enough that it should eat up your awareness, stealing precious, present moments or the ability to open up to experiences that deny you that desire, don’t simply cut it out like a cancer.
Stop consuming the things which feed cancers of both body and mind. Exercise physically and mentally, nourish yourself properly and proportionately, and then rest in the present moment.
Temper desire, do not make yourself its slave.
